LISTENING EDUCATION

Most of us were never taught how to listen.  We were told to listen, but we never had a listening course where we were taught to focus and be present, recognize and overcome our own listening barriers, and ask critical questions. Many schools and universities have been adding listening courses as part of communication programs and businesses are recognizing that it’s not so much a soft skill as a power tool, and we all know how vital it is to listen and be listened to in those relationships that mean the most to us.

Those educators who—in any class—help students develop keen listening skills offer invaluable insights and lasting skills.  Listening skills are likely to boost academic potential and stay with students to enhance business opportunities, personal relationships and the critical listening skills that will help them make sound choices in this age of information overload.

The good news is that listening education is a growing field, with ever-expanding resources.
